Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL EV QUESTIONS

HOW DO YOU RECHARGE THE BATTERIES?
Recharging the batteries is very easy. You simply plug the battery charger into any regular 115V or 230V wall outlet and connect the other end to the charging jack of the bike. To begin charging, turn the ON and OFF switch to the ON position and let the state-of-the-art Soneil automatic charger do the rest.

Now, there will be a red LED meaning there is power flowing through and an orange LED indicating it's charging. Once fully recharged, the light will change to green. The charger automatically goes off and enters trickle mode, topping off the batteries, and, best of all, can be left on as long as you wish. Simply unplug when you're ready to go.

DO YOU HAVE TO WARM-UP THE MOTOR BEFORE RIDING?
Unlike a conventional gasoline engine, electric motors don't need any warm up time. Turn on the key, twist the throttle and go, no special procedure required. Another benefit is that it isn't affected by weather conditions or temperature, so the same simple start up applies during the winter, spring or fall.

IS MAINTENANCE LONG AND COMPLICATED?
Maintenance is as simple and short as it gets. This is because electric bikes don't involve transmission and engine oil changes, belt and chain adjustment, lubricants, ignition or spark plug replacement, carburetor and idle adjustment, etc. All you need to do is occasionally lubricate the chain and charge the batteries. Of course, routine maintenance and inspection of bodywork, nuts and bolts is recommended.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DRIVING AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE?
As with any EV, there are many benefits and advantages: zero emissions, no more dependance on foreign oil, the use of a renewable resource, and best of all, pennies to recharge. Other benefits that a rider can experience everyday are quiet, smooth operation, no smell, virtually zero maintenance and the freedom of rising gasoline prices.

DO ELECTRIC VEHICLES USE OIL FOR ELECTRICITY PRODUCTION, THUS CREATING POLLUTION?
The answer to that question, in simple terms, is no. Electric power generation in Canada does not use oil. Hydroelectric, nuclear, coal, natural gas and wind are typical sources for generating electricity. Power generation plants, even coal-burning ones, are much more efficient and less polluting than oil refineries mainly due to the ability to more efficiently remove pollutants from a smaller number of much larger fixed locations.

Also, an electric bike is far more efficient than a gasoline one, so the amount of pollution generated by producing the electricity to drive an EV a given distance is much less than the pollution from the gasoline to drive an internal combustion bike the same distance. In a typical combustion engine, only 20 percent of the total energy used is converted into motion, the rest is lost as heat. In an electric bike like the MEX or X15, more than 85 percent of the energy generated by the motor is converted into motion, proving its superior efficiency level.

WHERE CAN I GET SPARE PARTS?
All parts are available for purchase through our website. Whether you're looking for a new motor, controller, or battery pack or replacement parts such as tires, brake pads, etc, we carry a full line of products at very competitive prices to meet all of our customers' needs.

IS IT SAFE TO RIDE IN WET CONDITIONS AND CAN THE BIKE BE WASHED?
Our electric bikes are sealed and designed to be able to run in wet conditions, although we don't suggest to ride in the rain because visibilty and traction becomes greatly reduced. With that said, it can be dangerous to pour water directly in the charging port, on the batteries or in the controller area. Wheels and tires can be washed with a hose, and for the rest of the bike such as the seat, body and other components, a dry or damp cloth is preferable.

WHAT DOES THE LIMITED WARRANTY COVER?
-Controller: 6 months
-Batteries: 3 months with free replacement
-Motor, throttle, charger, and all electrical: 3 months
-Mechanical: 30 days

*The warranty does not cover damage due to a lack of maintenance, accidents, misuse, abuse or wear and tear. Any modifications will void the warranty.
